Canvas Student App
Note: There’s a lot you can do with the Canvas Student mobile app, but you still need access to a computer to complete some of your assignments. If you don’t have access to a computer, email deanofstudents@ucsc.edu for information about the Slug Support laptop loaner program.
The Canvas Student App is available for both iOS and Android devices. Start by downloading the Canvas Student app to your phone or tablet. (Search for "Canvas" in your app store.)

Logging in via the Canvas Student App
- After opening the app, tap "Find my school" and type 'UC Santa Cruz' on the next screen. Suggestions should populate and you should select UC Santa Cruz (not UC Santa Cruz Extension or University of California - Santa Cruz).
- Enter your CruzID and Gold credentials.
- You should now be logged in and your Canvas dashboard should load.

Logging in via QR Code
You can view a Canvas login QR code in your Canvas web browser. You can scan this QR code with your mobile device to log in to the Canvas Student app without entering your institution URL and user credentials.
Important note: QR codes should be kept as confidential as passwords and codes should also never be generated while sharing a screen via a screen sharing service.
- From your Canvas browser, click on Account. Click QR for Mobile Login.
- Read the important message from Canvas before confirming to display your QR Code.
- From your Canvas Student App, tap 'QR Code'. The app will explain how to find the QR code (steps 1-2 above). Click Next. Scan the QR Code with your phone to login.
