What Are Global Classrooms?
The Global Classrooms program at UC Santa Cruz administered by the Division of Global Engagement (GE). The program launched in late 2020 with the first cohort of UCSC faculty. In winter 2021, the cohort participated in professional development training. They currently working on designing their Global Classroom courses to implement in AY 2021-22 at UCSC. Read about the inaugural faculty cohort here on the Global Classrooms website.
We are excited about the educational potential of the COIL/Virtual Exchange approach to intercultural education. As UCSC students continue to seek high-value educational experiences, developing and offering these Global Classroom courses will allow UCSC to meet the changing learning needs and preferences of our students. While traditional mobility programs such as study abroad and summer Global Seminars offer fantastic opportunities for educational travel, virtual programs will allow students who may not be able to readily travel abroad to gain the perspective and long-lasting benefits of exploring a culture other than their own.
The Global Classrooms team within GE sends out an annual Call for Applications and coordinates faculty support services, including pre-application information sessions, cohort training, and long-term support for faculty as they develop and implement their Global Classrooms course(s). For more information, please contact the team and we'll be able to assist you.
