Instructions

You will have until Monday, May 3 at 11:59 PM to complete this exam. Until then, you may work on it for however long you want, and you may leave the exam and return to it as you wish up until the due date. Please remember to SAVE your work before leaving the exam each time, and remember you must click on SUBMIT when you are completely finished (it will not submit automatically when the due date arrives). Once you have submitted the exam, you will not be able to open it again, so please be sure you are finished before you click SUBMIT.

This exam is open book. You may refer to the lecture videos, the lecture Powerpoints, your Exercise Physiology textbook, The Sports Gene, the Clark et al. paper, and, if you wish (though it is not necessary) the internet. As you know, information available on the internet is of variable quality, and it is often contradictory. Please evaluate the reliability of any source you consult. The lecture materials and required readings will be the arbiters of truth in any differences between what you may find on the internet and what is in class materials, so I recommend you rely primarily on class materials when deciding on your answers. You MAY NOT discuss this exam or your answers with other students in this class (or anyone else) until after the submission deadline has passed. Any sharing of answers or discussion of exam questions with others will be considered a violation of the Academic Integrity Policy of UCSC. Please review the academic integrity section of the course syllabus if you are unsure what the Academic Integrity Policy entails.

This is a fairly long exam, so please make sure to review the entire exam early on so you can plan your time accordingly. It consists of True/False, Multiple Choice, Matching, and Short Answer questions, as well as one longer written answer (1 paragraph). Any question that refers specifically to the Sports Gene readings is identified with "(SG)" at the beginning of the question. Good luck!
