Creating a wood cut with your design
For our wood cut design, we have a few options about how we want the images to work together. The outer image will be a cut line, but the inner image can be a cut line, engraved line, or score line. This gives us several options about how we want to showcase our design.
Start by uploading both designs into the Glowforge app Links to an external site.. Note that you need to have completed your assessment to be able to follow along with this process.
Your images will probably come in much larger than you'd like. Start by resizing your outer shape to the largest size you want. I want my paint splatter to be no more than 3", so I'll use the ruler in the bottom to set it to the right size.
My Paintbrush is still too big, so I'll need to resize that as well.
Unlike the examples with the Cricut and the 3D printer, I'm not able to flip my image here. Instead, I'm going to rotate the paint splotch to be in a different orientation. I'm doing this because I would like to line up the paint brush with the longest edge of the paint splotch.
Next I need to put my cut layer to the bottom if it isn't already, and decide how I want the paintbrush to appear. Because there is an empty spot inside the paintbrush, I don't want to cut it out. Instead, I am going to choose to engrave the paintbrush.
Double check your settings, confirm your print with the DSI students, and let it cut!
