The Dreamoc Diamond [[ Creating Media ]]
In this walkthrough we will be using Blender to create a hologram animation from a pre-existing 3D model.
Follow this link to download Blender for free if you don't have it already: ( Blender Download Page Links to an external site. )
Keep in mind, Blender can be an intensive program. If your personal computer cannot handle the software, you are more than welcome to use the computers located in the DSI or the DSC.
(Note : We will be assuming that you already know the basics of blender like how to move and operate the camera or other objects. Youtube is a good place to start if you've never used blender before. )
1. Download “default_dreamoc” blender file :: default_dreamoc.blend Links to an external site.
2. Import model into middle of the "default_dreamoc" blender scene.
Toggle the camera view to see how your model looks in the camera view. ( shown in red )
Press the spacebar to view the turntable animation.
3. Check that your render output is in the correct Dreamoc format
Go to the “Rendering” tab at the top-middle of the window.
At the top left of the window select “Render” -> “Render Image”
---- ( A separate window should pop up with your model duplicated and rotated properly. )
4. Check your export settings
Resolution should be 1920 x 1080
Frame Range start & end should correspond to the length of the animation
Make sure the output file is to an easily accessible destination on your computer
File format must be “FFmpeg Video”
Container must be MPEG-4
Video Codec must be H.264
5. Export your video
- Once you’ve checked your settings, select “Render Animation”. A pop up window will display each frame render. Once it’s done, it will export to the output destination you specified earlier.
Once you've completed your video, bring it to the front desk at the DSI or email digitalscholarship@ucsc.edu for further instruction.
