The documentary, SLAYING THE DRAGON, helps the viewer gain an understanding of Hollywood's history of representing Asian women. The second half of the film moves into a more contemporary era in which an added trope for Asian American females is featured, the news reporter; it also covers independent work including by Wayne Wang whose film, CHAN IS MISSING, we will see next week. Here are the discussion questions to think about. Chapter 4 from our coursebook accompanies the film, and we will continue with Gina Marchetti's essay on "White Knights" and Peter Feng's essay about a "Nancy Kwan-dary" this week.
