Paper writing - Related Work

2) Related work topic paragraphs

• A related works section is best made of a set of 'topic areas' that are related, rather than individual papers. Write down the topics you think are related. These are things you guess there are multiple papers which did it this way.  Explicitly label these Topics for now. We will remove the labels in a final paper.

• For each topic area, you are going to argue that its not the same as what you did, and this is going to apply to the whole section.  Write down this reason for each paragraph. Explicitly label these reasons for now, we will remove the labels in the final paper.
• For each paper you know of so far, add it to the right section with a sentence of text.

For example if my contribution statement was "I invented blue widgets" you might have:

Topic: A number of authors have explored colored widgets.

• Papers: Chen et al show two wheeled red widgets [1]. Smith et al show generalized red widgets [2]. Vaish et al and Wang and Jones show green and yellow widgets [3][4].
• Reason: However none of this prior work explores Blue Widgets, the topic of this paper.

Topic: Dimensionality reduction has been extensively studied.

• Papers: Classic dimentionality reduction includes PCA, ICA, and XXX [5,6,7]. More recently deep neural nets have been used to reduce dimensionality of data using a model derived from training data [8,9,10,11,12,13].
• Reason: In this paper we try several of these known methods and evaluate which is best for Blue Widgets.

All teammates will submit their own assignments. You are welcome to discuss with your teammates, and indeed you should do so. You are writing a paper. You want everyones opinions. Ask your roommate and your mom too! However I want you each to try writing the text on your own for submission on this assignment. After you have submitted, compare with your teammates, and copy your favorites into your Overleaf paper.

You should include the complete citations with numbers in your assignment text, but I dont care if they are formatted badly at this point. You are just including them so you have them later. The assignment is about framing the paragraphs.
