>> Changing Filament Material

Storage containers of filament

Filament type can be changed easily on the Bambu X1 Carbon by using the procedure from the menu or by changing it manually. Besides changing a material there, you also have the option to only load or unload a material from the filament screen.

At this time we are using .4mm cores on all of our Bambu printers.  In the near future we will have .2 and .8mm cores that patrons can use.

1.  Loading Your Filament

The fastest and easiest way to load your filament is by doing so manually through the AMS (Automatic Material System).

1. Begin by snipping your filament so that you have a clean/unbent edge.

2. Choose the slot you would like to use in the AMS (they are numbered 1-4, left to right) and place your filament roll in the loader.

3. Push forward on the angled black button at the front of the feeder and insert your filament into the tube at the top of the arm.  As the AMS starts to pull your filament let go of the button.  Your filament is ready for use!

2. Go to the slider menu on the left of the screen and choose: Filament

If you are using an official Bambulab filament spool, AMS will automatically identify the type and color of the filament via RFID. You can tap the slot of the identified filament on the screen to view the specific information, but you cannot manually modify it.

If you are not using Bambu filament, you can manually edit your filament by tapping the slot in the AMS where you loaded the filament.  Polyterra, one of our primary filaments, is an option through this menu.  If you are using multiple-colors, the color you select does matter, they do not matter if you are printing in a single color.

3. Once your filament is set-up you are ready to print.

Unloading Filament

After your print is finished you will need to unload and return your filament to the desk.

To unload filament after your print is complete, simply press the grey button forward and spin the spool slowly to wind the filament backward onto the spool.

IMPORTANT:  Please make sure to anchor the filament into the side slot/hole for storage.  This ensures that the filament is not tangled for the next patron. picture of how to properly secure the end of a filament role
