Texts
The only texts you'll need are Benner's Selections from Homer's Iliad and a good translation of the Iliad (I'd recommend Fagles).
The only text you'll need to begin with is Allen Rogers Benner's Selections from Homer's Iliad (University of Oklahoma Press, 2001). You should also have a good translation of the Iliad; I recommend Fagles' translation, or Lattimore's.
There is a dictionary in the back of Benner, as well as a grammar, which you can supplement with Smyth and the resources in the classics library (especially Cunliffe's Lexicon).
Class Requirements
Be in class every time, on time, with all assignments prepared. We will have frequent quizzes on vocabulary, morphology, and syntax. Grades will be based on quizzes (15%), tests (30%), final paper (25%), and class participation and preparedness (30%). Assignments will be posted regularly on our daily assignments page.
