  • Monday January 8 First day of class!
  • Wednesday January 10 Read through Unit 9 and learn the vocab (pay attention to the vocab notes!); do Unit 9 Drill I odds from 1-23; Unit 9 Exercises I.4-28, multiples of 4 only!
  • Friday January 12 Finish Unit 9 Exercises I evens (you will have done some of these already); review the forms of the third declension nouns you already know.
  • Monday January 15 University Holiday
  • Tuesday January 16 Tutoring signups begin at 9:30 a.m. All the info you need is at https://lss.ucsc.edu/Student-Sign-up%20.html.
  • Wednesday January 17 Finish Unit 9 Exercises I odds.
  • Friday January 19 Quiz on third declension nouns: φύλαξ, ὁ/ἡ αἴξ, ἡ ἐλπίς, ἡ χάρις, and τὸ σῶμα. Finish the Unit 9 Exercises evens. In class we will read Unit 10.
  • Monday January 22 Read Unit 10 through the description of γένος and Σωκράτης, and learn the forms of the new third-declension nouns μήτης, ἀνήρ, γένος, and Σωκράτης. Learn the vocab, and read the vocab notes carefully. Do Drill 1 (a and b only) 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15. (Note that πάθος works just like γένος.) In class, we will talk about nouns like πόλις and βασιλεύς, and third-declension adjectives, and finish the Drill by doing part c.
  • Wednesday January 24 Read Unit 10 entire, and do Unit 10 Exercise 1.6, 7, 10, and 27 and Reading C.
  • Friday January 26 Read Unit 11 but stop when you get to Deponent Verbs. Learn Unit 11 vocab (read the notes!) and do Drill 1 (change aspect, but not number).
  • Monday January 29 Download In-class quiz on the Conditional Sentences chart. Also, take the Unit 11 παιδεύω Online Quiz. Read Unit 11 through section 96 (on αὐτός, αὐτή, αὐτό). Do Drill II. Learn the Unit 11 vocab (read the notes!!!).
  • Wednesday January 31 Do Unit 11 Drill IV 7-8 and Exercise I.1, 6, and 20. Download In-class quiz on the forms of πᾶς, πᾶσα, πᾶν; sample here; see page 217 in the text for the charts.
  • Friday February 2 Read through Unit 12 and learn new vocabulary (you will love the vocab notes!). Read through Unit 13 (just the -μι verb part; stop when you get to "Object Clauses of Effort"), learn Unit 13 vocabulary (read the notes!) and do Unit 12 Drill I (only a).
  • Monday February 5 Unit 13 Drill III and Exercise I.2, 7, 11, 13, and 21. Learn the vocab.
  • Wednesday February 7 Read through Unit 14, stopping when you get to supplementary participles. Learn Unit 14 vocabulary (read the notes!). Do Unit 14 Drill I. Take the Unit 11 ποιέω Online Quiz. 
  • Friday February 9 Read the rest of Unit 14 and do Unit 14 Drill II.
  • Monday February 12 Noun forms quiz: τέχνη, χώρᾱ, θαλάττα, γέφῡρα, πολίτης, νεᾱνίᾱς, λόγος, ἔργον, φύλαξ, σῶμα, μήτηρ, γένος, Σωκράτης, πόλις, and βασιλεύς. Unit 14 Exercises I.2, 5, 6, 10, 11, 15, 19, 26, 29.
  • Wednesday February 14 Special Valentine's Day Class! Take the Unit 11 τῑμάω Online Quiz and the Unit 14 δίδωμι Online Quiz. Here's the link to the Verb List on Google Sheets. Links to an external site. Links to an external site. Remember that you will need to make a copy to edit or sort it.

  • Wednesday February 21 Read through Unit 15 and learn vocab (read the notes!). Do Drill I multiples of 3 only, and Drill II odds only.

  • Monday February 26 Reread Unit 16 and do Exercises I.5, 11, 13, 14, 19, 21, 22, and 31.

  • Wednesday February 28 Read Unit 17 just through the forms of the comparative and superlative and do Drills I (odds only) and II (odds only). Learn all the vocab (read the notes!).
  • Friday March 2 Read all of Unit 18 and learn vocab (read the notes!!!). Do Drill I odds and Drill II entire.
  • Monday March 5 Take the εἶμι εἰμί ἵημι Online Quiz Finish Unit 18 Drill I odds and Drill II entire. Read Unit 19 and learn all vocabulary (read the notes!).
  • Wednesday March 7 Quiz on Irregular Comparative and Superlative Adjectives (see pp. 544-545 and Download this summary). Read Unit 19 through section 144 (stop when you get to Temporal Clauses). Then begin the Aristophanes reading in Unit 19 (Acharnians). Try to get through line 252. Remember to do your review of verb forms for the class.
  • Friday March 9 Read all of Unit 19 and continue with the Aristophanes reading in Unit 19 (Acharnians). Even if you can't fully translate a portion, make sure you have looked up all the words you need to and can identify all the verb forms, know the case and number of all the nouns, etc. Quiz on aorist active and passive participles of παιδεύω; Download sample here.
